Daredevil climbers tackle vertical ice walls and frozen waterfalls (15Pics)

Sam Elias climbs on the Fang, a 100-feet high ice pillar in Vail in Fairplay, Colorado. He spent the day hauling photographic equipment up into the Rocky Mountains before ice climbing so that his photographer friend, Keith Ladzinski could record the moment for prosperity.

The photographer said: "It's an almost dead vertical 100-foot-tall roman column made from ice. Not only is it world class because of its looks - and therefore gorgeous to look at - but it's a great climb that attracts people from all over the world to test their skill. That day it took some serious effort because I wanted to light up the column with strobes to get the perfect shot. This meant hiking with 22 lights and eight stands in total." The Fang ice waterfall collapsed only two years ago, seriously injuring a climber, who fell the equivalent of ten floors. The ice waterfall has formed again this year.

Keith Ladzinski has photographed many daredevil climbers tackling sheer ice walls and frozen waterfalls in Colorado and Canada.
