Victim kills teen robber on trail, police say

Teens knocked 65-yr-old man off his bicycle, and two of them assaulted him. Man pulled out a handgun and shot them both, one fatally - police decided to release the man and charge the juvenile

A 65-year-old man was justified in shooting two of three teenagers who were attempting to rob him as he rode his bicycle along a popular river trail Wednesday morning, authorities announced Thursday.

The ordeal unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. on the Thun Trail in Cumru Twp., Berks Co.

The teens knocked the man off his bicycle and onto the ground in their third random robbery attempt in about an hour's time, said Berks County District Attorney John Adams.

Two of the teens were assaulting the man when he pulled out a gun and shot them, police said.

"While I don't condone violence, the bike rider had no choice," said Adams. "He was in danger of death and serious bodily injury. The bike rider did not provoke the situation."

The man is licensed to carry a gun, said Adams.

One of the alleged assailants, Julius Johnson, 16, a student in the Reading School District who skipped school Wednesday, died at the scene of a gunshot wound to the chest, officials said.

Another teen, a 15-year-old student in the Governor Mifflin School District, was also shot and taken to a hospital for surgery. He is expected to be charged when he's discharged from the hospital, Adams said.

The third teen, a 16-year-old boy, was uninjured and committed to the county's Youth Detention Center.

Johnson had previous run-ins with the law and skipping school violated his probation, Adams said. Probation officers went to his home Wednesday morning, placed an electronic monitoring device on him and told the other two teens to go back to school, Adams said.

"Mr. Johnson and the two other juveniles did not go back to school, and Mr. Johnson did not obey his probation officers."

Instead, Adams said, the teens went into West Reading and assaulted an elderly man and another man before targeting the bicyclist.

I bet the two remaining little bastards think twice before they pull another stunt like this! Good for that bike rider.

Good, shallow end of the gene pool needs thinning out every once in a while.

So what happened, the victim shat and missed the third assailant?

Bummer....hope for better aim if it happens again.

This is exactly what Governor Brown fears most: Law abiding citizens defending themselves witj any type of firearm against miscreants. Only skinhead cops and gangbangers in baggy clothes get to carry pistols - law abiding citizens can no longer even open carry. Want a concealed permit? Better make a big donation to some sheriff's campaign. Cops don't protect you - they just file your rape, robbery or murder report when the gangbanger finishes you off.

By eliminating from society the criminal element at the youngest possible age, we save many hundreds of thousands in incarceration costs. Many thanks to the 65-year-old who saved his community hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars in costs associated with prosecuting and incarcerating a juvenile criminal through the lifetime of the criminal.

Umm , lets see, they were being monitored? Yeah that works huh. And the MSM forgot to mention their race.Oh that's right "Teens", "urban youth" and simply plain " youth" are code words for non whites.Had they of been white the MSN would without a doubt mentioned it. They don't mention it because they don't want the racial numbers to add up and show whom the real criminals and racist are. This 65 year old man is a hero. Thank God he was carrying or else he could have been dead.

Switzerland does not have this problem. Apparently a small part of America does not either.

And had the old man not been 'licensed to carry', he would be doing more time than the surviving predators COMBINED!

Don't let this happen.

JURY NULLIFICATION!

Same goes for the 'legal lotto' families of the 'urban wombats' in a civil suit for wrongful death and injury (which you know i$ coming).

every sleazy little politician should be required to have their residence in the highest crime area of their district with no security. when those who make the decisions are affected by those decisions, they make better decisions.

Luckily the man lived in an area that allowed firearm possession. Had he been in a police state like New Jersey, he would have helplessly been the victim of street thuggery.

The only down side to this story is that the biker had to be licensed to carry. Other than that, good article. Don't look for the police to save you. They show up for the paperwork and yellow tape. Justice delayed is justice denied. Mr. Johnson has learned his lesson. It was pricey.
